Call for Entry

If you would like to be a Madonnaro in our Madonnari Arts Festival, please fill out the form on this page and an application will be sent out to you. We are always looking for new talent and Madonnari for our chalk festival. Our festival is artist driven and our committee is made up of Madonnari that wish to create an event for all artists and Madonnari. Rules for Submission and Festival Participation:

1. Artists under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian present at the Festival.

2. Artists must submit 3-5 examples of their art (must be a JPEG or JPG with file name formatted as their first and last name, the title of that artwork, example: JaneDoe_Madonna and Child.jpg) in addition to a sketch of their intended street painting for the festival (JaneDoe_MuralSketch.jpg) accompanied by a statement explaining their concept and how it reflects the Festival theme which this year is “Women”.

3. Artwork should be appropriate for all viewing ages.

4. Use only chalk pastels as a medium. Diluted tempera paint may be used as a base. NO other paints, oils, gesso, liquid pastels, or fixatives. Water is allowed.

5. Artists must allow organizers and media to photograph the design and/or artist for publicity purposes.

6. Artists will be courteous, friendly, and helpful to fellow artists and members of the public.

7. All artist submissions to this call for entry are subject to approval or rejection by the Organizers.

8. Artists will be present on the Festival grounds during Festival hours September 10-12.

9. The undersigned acknowledges and hereby forever discharges, releases, and holds harmless the Organizers of the festival from any loss or damage to my person or property while participating in this event. By signing, the applicant certifies that all information provided is true and correct.

10. Drink plenty of water! If your skin is sensitive, ask a staff person for sunscreen.

11. Don’t wear out your fingers. The sidewalk is rough, so take it easy.

12. Use your whole square, but don’t go outside the square.

13. No promotional images for businesses or corporations

14. Kids: your parents can help, but judges will take it into consideration.

15. Don’t be afraid to take chances and have Fun!

PRIZES:

At approximately 4 pm at the Center Stage, we will announce prize winners on the Music Stage. We have 2 different categories you can enter for professional Madonnari and one category for schools and students. Please mark which category you wish to enter below:

Contemporary Prize:

• 3rd Place prize of $200 will be awarded

• 2nd Place prize of $500 will be awarded

• 1st Place prize of $1,000 will be awarded

Classical Prize:

• 3rd Place prize of $200 will be awarded

• 2nd Place prize of $500 will be awarded

• 1st Place prize of $1,000 will be awarded

School Prize:

• 1st Place prize of $500 will be awarded

For Madonnari that are coming from outside of Baltimore or Maryland, we supply accommodations, travel, and 2 meals a day for 3 days.
